Minor league hockey team set to drop the first puck in Kingston this November

(KINGSTON, RI – August 27, 2009) – Global Spectrum, operators of the Bradford R. Boss Ice Arena, the University of Rhode Island, RI Storm personnel, the NEPHL and the South Kingstown Chamber of Commerce held a press conference yesterday to announce that the Rhode Island Storm will play their 2009-2010 season at the Bradford R. Boss Ice Arena in Kingston.

Details of the partnership and the 2009-2010 season were announced in front of over seventy-five youth hockey players, the University of Rhode Island Community (including Dr. David Dooley, the new president of URI), the media and various community members. The team is one of five in the “AA” North East Professional Hockey League (NEPHL) with opponents hailing from Brooklyn, NY; Fitchburg, MA; Salem, NH; and Danbury, CT. All teams are scheduled to have a forty-four game (twenty-two home games) schedule which kicks off in early November.

The Storm is focused on becoming a partner within the Rhode Island Community and looks forward to provide affordable, family entertainment for many years to come. Tickets start at just $10 and season ticket packages for a family of four will start at just $500. Once on sale, tickets will be available at www.ticketmaster.com, 1-800-745-3000 or at the Boss Arena Box Office. Parking is free for all RI Storm games.

After the press conference, the Boss Ice Arena opened for public skating, refreshments, contests to win team merchandise and a visit from URI's own Rhody the Ram. Three players from the RI Storm signed autographs and skated with young hockey fans, and those in attendance were the first to enter the “Create the Mascot” contest. The community is invited to send suggestions for the teams' mascot via mail to the Boss Ice Arena or via marketing@theryancenter.com. The winning idea will be revealed at a Storm home game this season.

To contact the team directly, email info@stormprohockey.com or call 401-874-5642. The team website is set to be www.stormprohockey.com and will officially launch in the coming weeks.
