DONATE AND SKATE EVENT COLLECTS 643 POUNDS OF FOOD AT BOSS ICE ARENA
(KINGSTON, RI- February 23, 2010)- In support of National Canned Food Month, Global Spectrum, operators of the Boss Ice Arena, hosted Donate and Skate on February 20-21. In a partnership with the Southern Rhode Island Newspapers, the fundraiser collected 643 pounds of canned food items that were donated to the Johnnycake Center in Peace Dale, RI.
“The staff of the Boss Ice Arena is very grateful to be able to assist the Johnnycake Center with our partner, the Southern Rhode Island Newspapers,” said Terry Butler of Global Spectrum, General Manager of the Boss Ice Arena and Ryan Center. “Helping to stock the shelves of the Johnnycake Center is a year round need; the generosity of those who participated made for a wonderful opportunity to make a difference in the local community, and allowed donors a chance to enjoy a public skating session at our indoor ice rink.”
Over 450 community members participated in the event that Global Spectrum hopes to hold on an annual basis at the Boss Ice Arena. Anyone who donated a can of food on February 20 or 21 enjoyed a public ice skating session free of charge.
The mission of the Johnnycake Center is to improve the quality of life for individuals and families by providing comprehensive assistance to those in need of food, clothing, and household items and through individual and systemic advocacy for our clients. Their vision is to eliminate hunger in our community. For more information, visit www.johnnycakecenter.com or become a fan on Facebook.
